Alpaca is a fast-growing series B fintech startup that’s raised over $70 million in funding.
Alpaca is an API-first stock and crypto platform that enables developers and businesses across the world to build trading algorithms, applications, and brokerage services.
Our globally distributed team consists of developers, traders, and brokerage specialists, and is backed by a group of prominent investors and highly experienced industry angel investors, including Tribe Capital, Horizon Ventures, Spark Capital, Social Leverage, Elefund, Portag3, and Y Combinator.
And, of course, we are very enthusiastic about open source contributions as well as community building.
The Alpaca Herd (Our Team):
We have 200+ globally distributed (remote) team members who love to have work from their favorite places in the world. We have team members based in the USA, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Nigeria, Brazil, United Kingdom, and more! We love candidates who have passion to make a global difference in financial services and technology, by impacting local communities, and becoming a part of our hyper-growth company.
The goal of our team is to enable engineers throughout the company to get their work done effectively, iterate faster and ship high-quality products. We measure our output by how useful our work is to others.
As part of the team, you will seek out common pain points across engineering and help solve the most burning ones. You will identify issues, come up with ways to solve them and then implement the solution that will result in meaningful improvements for engineers. You will seek input for ideas and feedback for solutions. You will build some tools and adopt some others, but you will also need to work on process related changes as not everything can or needs to be solved with tooling.
What You'll Do:
Design highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage system
Implement backend services and web applications
Analyze and maintain existing software applications
Improve test coverage
Discover and fix programming bugs
You may be asked to be on-call to assist with engineering projects that are timely in nature
You will research existing tools and if necessary implement our own solution
Who You Are (Must-Haves):
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field
Experience with at least one of: GoLang, Python, NodeJS
You have spent significant amount of time on the other side of the table and have experienced difficulties that are common for engineers
You can operate under loosely defined constraints: don't expect perfectly defined tasks, you'll do some of the defining
You can get to the core of problems and address them appropriately
You are not afraid to dive into a code base and can quickly (and roughly) figure out the answers to your questions
You can understand others' perspectives and are willing to change your mind
You can communicate effectively both in speaking and writing
You are good at identifying the weaknesses and strengths of an idea before completely implementing it
You have a good sense of what "good enough" means, and prefer less to more, simple to complex
You are data driven when it comes to decision making
Cloud native stack (mostly on GCP)
Unix, Docker, Kubernetes
PostgreSQL, Redis, Mongo or other storages, depending on where you look
Monitoring with Grafana, Prometheus and Elastic
