Overview
The VP, Financial Transactions Domain Data Steward is a key role as part of the SMBC Americas Division Data Strategy. As part of the Chief Data Officer's data governance organization, this data expert will join the Enterprise Transaction Data Executive in implementing the organization's Data Governance plan across the Americas Division Financial Transactions Domain. This includes working with the business, technology and corporate functional teams to properly define Key Data Elements, address Data Quality issues, and identify data stewards and owners of these data with a focus on critical business initiatives such as BSA/AML, Regulatory Reporting and Front Office Analytics and Reporting.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day responsibilities include developing data definitions, measurements and exception handling. This individual is an expert in transactions data and data governance processes, who works with other focused subject matter experts to implement our Data Governance Policy and Standards.
Specific Responsibilities Include
Partners with business stakeholders to research and document data elements (terms) used in current or new reports in order to correctly define terms
Works with business and technology to document data flows from source to target (data lineage)
Supports a comprehensive testing through deployment of test cases aimed at validating development for a specific functional requirement.
Analyzes data or new requirements for reports or data migration and efforts to consolidate data into centralized golden sources
Coordinates solutions and fixes through change management, service requests, testing and liaising with technology support
Produces and distributes periodic status reports and scorecards as part of our Data Governance framework
Performs knowledge transfer and cross training for stakeholders in the data governance community
Coordinates with the business to resolve data quality issues when the issue is due to business process gaps
Works with Data Technology to implement solutions as necessary to support the data governance program
Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of banking systems and transactions including one of the following-(l oans, Leases, Deposits, FOREX, Derivatives, Securities, etc.) and methodologies for achieving AML compliance.
Experience implementing Data Governance standards with business and technology
5-10 years of specialized experience in Financial Services working with transactional data sets
Experience in a Chief Data Office or related Data Governance organization as a data steward or data domain lead
Expert user of Data Governance applications and MS suite of applications
BA / BS
Project management expertise and knowledge of project management methodology/SDLC/PLC processes in IT financial services environments.
Tenacious problem solver able to make routine decisions as well as complex analyses in a fast-paced, technical environment.
Experience in managing complex IT processes and projects across multiple business and technical areas
Ability to influence people outside the immediate span of control, negotiate and resolve conflicts, and work with business users, IT partners and vendors
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate concepts and ideas to diverse audiences
Able to work well autonomously and be a complete self-starter.
